Lupus is a chronic autoimmune disease the can cause pain and inflammation anywhere within the body.

Certain populations are at higher risk for developing lupus, including:

Women ages 15 to 44
Certain racial or ethnic groups — including people who are African American, Asian American, Hispanic/Latino, Native American, or Pacific Islander
People who have a family member with lupus or another autoimmune disease

There is currently no cure, only certain treatment protocols, if even diagnosed accurately.

Market Trends

Although there is currently no cure for Lupus, there are some medications available, both prescribed and over the counter. Another challenge this disease presents is uncovering the best treatment plan, which can take months to years in extreme cases.

This year, the Lupus Research Alliance and the FDA formed a novel private-public partnership called Lupus Accelerating Breakthroughs Consortium (Lupus ABC) to help advance lupus clinical trial success. In addition, a new Anifrolumab treatment entered the market last year, the first treatment advancement in a decade.

These indications show great promise in the fight against Lupus.

Being able to accelerate research and better inform clinical trial design through the use of real-world data and AI applications can help the healthcare community get the right treatments to the right patient at the right time.
